Northern Rivers Marine Services, a subsidiary of Clear Sea Fisheries, has been servicing the Clarence and its surrounding rivers since 2015. Based in the coastal town of Iluka, New South Wales, our team is passionate about recreational and commercial boating and aims to provide our customers with top-quality commercial mooring rental facilities and private mooring construction, installation, and annual maintenance services.
Our fleet of self-propelled barges and punts are available for hire and allow us to assist the boating community with a broad array of projects and to provide services including marine salvage, civil engineering support, waste management and removal, and boat maintenance.
Our team of qualified and professional skippers, deckhands, labourers and commercial divers offer over 20 years of marine and construction experience making us a one-stop-shop for all of those times you need assistance on the water. Whatever you need for your boat, jetty or mooring, we can provide it.
Founder and co-owner Jeff Hunt grew up in Iluka, leaving town after acquiring his high school certificate in 1992 to chase a career working for airlines and corporate entities all around the world. It was during this period that he met like-minded co-owner Frankie Bryant. Jeff returned to Iluka in 2019 to realise his dream of giving back to his hometown & the wider community, and to honour the land he grew up on.
Giving back started with the establishment of Clear Sea Fisheries as a small local fishing business in July 2019, when the co-owners bought their first trawler, the Sea Hunter.
In Feb 2020, work expanded from the ocean to flat water through the acquisition of Northern Rivers Marine Services (NRMS). After assessing the kind of work that needed to be done on the waterways, Clear Sea Fisheries made the decision to invest in a crane barge that would complete the tasks more efficiently and in less time, for the benefit of everyone in the marine environment. In May 2020 the crane barge MEK 1 arrived from Western Australia and commenced service.
NRMS added flood recovery work to the portfolio and acquired our first EPA contract in Nov 2021. The extensive floods of early 2022 saw NRMS expand substantially to meet the community's emergency clean-up needs.
Clear Sea Fisheries donated vessels to NRMS while NRMS engineered their own fleet of custom-designed river punts. With the addition of the new fleet, NRMS was able to expand its capability, enabling the team to further assist in mitigating the devasting impact of the 2021/2022 NSW floods and play our part in the rebuild and repair of the region’s waterways.
Today Clear Sea Fisheries is the proud owner of seven local historical trawlers based out of Iluka while NRMS has become the preferred contractor for NSW local & state government and councils. Together they have transformed into one of the largest companies of its kind on the east coast of Australia.
We strive to provide and maintain local employment and boost the local economy to support the beautiful pristine surrounds of this special community Iluka we call home.
Our passion for our future is to sustainably grow our companies while remaining based out of Iluka. We will continue to provide our extensive range of services but take them nationwide, at the same time as branching out into new exciting, innovative and entrepreneurial areas.
The team at NRMS is passionate about assisting all marine users with their moorings and boating needs.
Stay tuned with the latest news, announcements, products and services on the Northern Rivers.
